Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the drinking water situation in China?
A: Bottled water and a thermos of boiled water are usually supplied daily by the hotels. Tap water is not potable unless first boiled

Q: What type of buses are used in our tours?
A: With larger groups, air conditioned highway buses similar to North America and Europe are used. For smaller groups, vans or smaller buses will be the type of transportation.

Q: What kind of currencies should we bring with us?
A: Both US and Canadian currencies are accepted either in cash or traveler�s cheques.

Q. Are credit cards accepted?
A. Yes, but usually only in the cities and larger retail outlets.

Q: Are there bank machines available and can we take out money in China?
A: Yes, but the service charge is usually high.

Q: What kind of cruise ship are used for the Yangtze River Cruise?
A: The ships are river cruise ships and are not to be compared to ocean liners. They carry an average of 180 - 200 passengers. We use 4 star cruisers which are very clean and comfortable.

Q: What are the trains like that are listed in the tours?
A: For overnight trips, they are first class trains with private soft sleeper compartments that sleep 4. For shorter day trips, our clients will be on tourist trains that are clean and comfortable.

Q: What if we would like to do something that is not listed on the itinerary?
A: Our guides will look at each situation and try to accommodate our clients as best as we can.

Q: What if we are not happy with some of the arrangements?
A: One of the responsibilities of the host and the national guide is to listen to complaints and to try and resolve them.

Q: Can we bargain for the price of goods?
A: In market places, the vendors expect it. In larger outlets, probably not, but there is no harm in trying. Your guides can give you better information depending on where you are.

Q: Can we return our purchases if we are not satisfied?
A: Most outlets will allow exchanges but some will not allow returns.

Q: What if we do not like Chinese food, are vegetarians or have food allergies?
A: For both lunch and dinner, there are usually 8 - 10 dishes. There will be many different choices, some of which will be vegetarian. If you do not like any Chinese food or have any food allergies, you should make us aware of that before leaving on the tour so that we can make special arrangements. In most places, you can get Western style food. Breakfasts are Western style buffets with an array of Chinese breakfast items.
